4 Ways to Prepare for Black Friday

The holiday season is slowly creeping in. Whether you’re thinking about turkey stuffing or Christmas gifts, there’s probably one more event you probably haven’t thought to plan for: Black Friday. In the past decade, Black Friday has gone from long lines in the autumn cold to digital shopping carts. That being said, the massive sales event is still worth preparing for. Read on to learn more about how to get the most out of your Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend.

1. Know what to buy — and what not to buy.

Black Friday sales are lauded as “the best sale all year” — but are they really? Well, sometimes. Certain products have steeper discounts than others. Things like clothing and furniture have better sales during other times of the year. Instead, you can get the most bang for your buck with the following items:

  • Computers and laptops
  • Home appliances and smart home gadgets
  • Home goods
  • Video games
  • Smartwatches

2. Make a list, check it twice.

There’s no shortage of sales on the weekend after Thanksgiving. But unless you have a bottomless wallet, you’ll only be able to splurge on a finite amount. If there’s a type of product you’ve been eyeing, prioritize that over the flashiest clothing sale that might eat into your budget more than you intended. Make a list of your “must get” items, and another for the ones that would be nice to have but can wait until another sale.

3. Keep track of your favorite brands.

If there are a few brands you really want to buy sale items from, keep track of their Black Friday promotions — and when they start. Many brands have begun their Black Friday sales early, a good way to nab consumers at the start of their splurge cycle. Make sure your items don’t go out of stock, and get them earlier if you can.

4. Timing is everything.

Don’t trust yourself to remember when those sales begin, let the brands do the work for you. Sign up for text and email notifications so you know exactly what’s on sale and when. This way you can get what you want in the correct color or size, and you can relax on Thanksgiving knowing that those promotions will arrive in your inbox when they’re ready for you.
